Things people ask.

The questions that come up most often when someone is figuring out whether IRC is for them.

Is IRC free?

Yes for individuals across all member tiers in year one. Open, Affiliate, Practitioner Member and Boardroom Member do not pay fees. Year two introduces a paid Partner Firm tier for IR firms participating in the Partners Forum. Practitioner Membership fees are not currently planned.

Who runs IRC?

IRC is operated by Outbreach, an incident response firm based in London. The operating partner relationship is openly disclosed. The Editorial Committee that curates Resources is staffed by practitioners and operates independently. The full breakdown is on the Partners disclosure page.

Is IRC a certification body?

No. IRC does not issue certifications. We are a community of practice. If you want a formal IR certification, look at GCFA, GCFR, GCIH, CHFI, or the relevant CISSP and ISACA paths.

Is IRC US-based or UK-based?

Both, with a global ambition. IRC was founded in the US in 2017 and ran the IR19 conference in Nashville. The 2026 relaunch is operated from London with global membership. The first Boardroom Forum is UK-based. Regional Boardroom Forums in other markets are on the roadmap.

What happened to the original IRC community?

The original US-era IRC remains part of the same brand. The 2024 relaunch announcement set the direction; the 2026 relaunch is the execution. Everything published since 2017 stays on the site, including the IR19 presentations, the Playbook Policy Engine, the books and frameworks library, the job board, and the full blog. US-era members will receive a re-engagement note later this year, with the membership re-affirmation flow.

How does vetting work for Practitioner Membership?

A short application form. We ask what you do, where, and what kind of incidents you work on. A member of the team reviews each application. Most decisions come back within two weeks. Light vetting in practice means we are checking that the applicant is genuinely doing IR work, not making it a closed club.

Are you affiliated with any vendor?

No. IRC does not partner with technology vendors selling to IR teams. The Partners Forum is for IR firms (retained-IR practices, forensic boutiques, Big 4 IR practices), not for tooling vendors. The Resources library does not carry vendor advertorial.

Can I author content for the Resources library?

Yes, once you are a Practitioner Member. Send a draft, an outline, or just a topic via the submission form or to hello@incidentresponse.com. We pick it up within a week, edit lightly for clarity, and publish with your byline. You retain all rights to your content.

Will my content be branded with my employer's logo?

No. Practitioner Runbooks carry the individual author's byline, not the employer's brand. If the employer is a Partner Firm, that affiliation can be disclosed in the author bio. The content itself is attributed to the person.

How is the Boardroom Forum different from a typical board-cyber event?

It is a standing peer community, not an event series. Two breakfasts a year, a closed peer channel between, and a small membership of around forty in the UK Forum. No vendor presence. Chatham House throughout. Run by a convening committee that includes sitting NEDs and Chairs.

Are events recorded?

Community calls are recorded and made available to members who couldn't attend live. Breakfasts and Boardroom Forum sessions are not recorded, by design. Offsites are case by case, with attendee consent.

Where do I find the old IRC content?

The navigation now surfaces it directly. The Resources dropdown includes the Playbook Policy Engine, books and frameworks, useful links and the job board. The Events dropdown includes the IR19 archive and past events. The footer has an Archive column with direct links to everything that carried over. Nothing has been removed from the site.

What's still being built?

The webinar library, the full re-engagement campaign for US-era members, and the visual identity refresh. All targeted for the second half of 2026. The first Practitioner Runbooks, the learning paths, mentor matching applications and the Editorial Committee page all went live in July 2026.

Can I contact IRC?

Yes. General enquiries to hello@incidentresponse.com. Boardroom Forum to boardroom@. Practitioner Forum to practitioner@. Partners Forum to partners@. Resources and Runbook submissions go to hello@. All addresses are at incidentresponse.com.

If your question isn't here, email hello@incidentresponse.com and we will reply within a week.
